Daniele's background is one defined by public service.
Meet Daniele Monroe-Moreno
Daniele Monroe-Moreno currently represents North Las Vegas in the Nevada Assembly. She is the Speaker Pro Tempore, Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, and Chair of the Nevada Democratic Party, the first Black woman to hold these positions. She did not achieve her positions through privilege, wealth, or connections. Her story is one of commitment to service, hard work, integrity, and a belief that we can work together to create a better community.
Daniele’s upbringing is inspirational. At birth, she was turned over to foster care and blessed to be later adopted by the Monroes. She was raised by a mother who owned her own small business and a father who served in the Air Force. They instilled in her the moral necessity of caring for others and giving back to your community.
Daniele’s life work is driven by her extraordinary commitment to service. She grew up in Tucson, Arizona and joined the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office as a Corrections Officer. Nearly 30 years ago, she accepted a similar position with the North Las Vegas Police Department, where she worked until her retirement in 2016. During her career, she was a representative for the North Las Vegas Police Department Association. Daniele raised her three daughters in North Las Vegas, and they all graduated from Clark County public schools.
In spite of working a demanding full-time job and raising her three girls, Daniele continued her mission of community service and engagement, volunteering and serving on boards for a number of nonprofits dedicated to helping Nevada’s youth. Along with all her volunteer work, she remained involved in the PTAs at the girls’ schools and was always there cheering at her daughters’ activities.
After retiring from her career in law enforcement, she decided to run for the Nevada Assembly and, in spite of not being the favored candidate by the Establishment, she prevailed.
In the Assembly, Daniele rose in leadership and responsibilities through hard work, accomplishment, building relationships across the aisle, and honesty. Her colleagues remark that she is “the first one here; the last one to leave” and her opponents admire her openness to listen to their arguments and for never breaking her word. Her policy priorities have included addressing maternal mortality, attainable and affordable housing, public safety, youth programs, workforce and economic development, education, and support for working families. As Chair of Ways and Means she led the state in grappling with a severe budget deficit without cutting education funding, laying off or furloughing state workers, or raising taxes. Daniele has always been guided by faith and she believes that God had led her to this point.
Daniele has always been active in the Democratic Party, first as a member of the Clark County Democratic Party Central Committee and now as Chair of the Nevada State Democratic Party. In this role, she’s traveled to every Nevada county at least twice to listen to residents in these often overlooked areas.
Together, Daniele and her husband Gary have six children, seven amazing grandchildren, and one spoiled dog. Daniele’s daughters are now adults and (not surprising) all work in fields that involve service to others. Daniele is a member of the Nehemiah Ministries Christian Church.
Now, Daniele Monroe-Moreno is running to be Mayor of North Las Vegas to represent every corner of the city, to bring bold, experienced leadership to City Hall, and to ensure that North Las Vegas is a vibrant city where families thrive, uplifting every neighborhood and every voice, because we are one city.
